As well as teaching, Mhairi still performs in musicals and shows in Barnsley with Lee Semley Theatre Productions and has also performed and choreographed shows for Chesterfield Operatics.
Mhairi’s skill set is very versatile and she is always open and determined to try something new!

What’s been happening...
Strive turned 1!
On the 1st July we celebrated SDC officially being open for 1 whole year. We are so lucky to have had the continued support from our students and their parents.
We can’t wait to see where Strive will go in the next year -
watch this space!
Supporting some of our own
and raising awareness!
CP Sport is a national sport organisation and charity.
Around 1 in every 400 children in the UK are diagnosed with CP (a lifelong neurological condition that impacts muscles tone, posture and movement).
Strive is proud to have a student and a member of staff diagnosed with CP enjoying our classes despite the barriers they face. CP Sport is an organisation extremely close to our hearts. We see first hand the positive impacts that sport and exercise has on those who live every day with CP.
During March our staff members, walked, ran and cycled 31 Miles for March raising funds for such an important cause.
We were also lucky enough to have a member of their incredible team join us in one of our lessons during Cerebral Palsy awareness month to see the positive impact first hand.
"From the start to the end of my work experience at strive I felt really welcomed, comfortable and open to ask any questions. Working there for just two weeks really helped me look more at the background of the company and encouraged my decision as if this would be something I’d consider pursuing in the future. All the teachers treat me the same way as they would any other person they worked with, which really made me feel included and not just a work experience student."
Abbie xx
Work experience success!
We were extremely excited this
year to be able to offer our first (hopefully of many!) work experience placements to a young dance enthusiast.
We were joined for 2 weeks by the wonderful Abbie, a year 10 pupil from Wales High School. We have had the pleasure of teaching Abbie in our seniors class but for these 2 weeks she joined us for much, much more.
Everything from running warm ups and playing games with our Minis Class, to choreographing our Adult Beginners. Abbie also helped support our administrative duties by designing posters and capturing photos of our dancers.
We are incredibly proud of Abbie and the work she achieved in her short time with us and we are so lucky to be able to continue to work with her every week in class. Here's what Abbie had to say about her experience.
